The Way We Wear Our Hair:
A social research project and photographic exploration
I am researching the relationship we have with our bush. The transformation it has taken over time-- from plentiful in the 20s, big and loud in the 70s, to today's prepubescence. My curiosity stems from the idea that we need to wax, pluck, trim, and shave in order to meet our own and other's expectations. Where do these expectations come from? How have they been passed down through generations? How do our manicuring practices impact our perceptions of ourselves and others? How do we want to be seen? How does this shape our ideas of femininity and masculinity?
With each model I will be conducting interviews and taking 3-4 photographs. All models will remain anonymous.
